Wholesale purchasers are caring more and more about where their food is coming from and who is producing it. FreshPoint is an advocate sponsor of our local communities and farms, understanding that buying local produce strengthens our regional economies, helps support family farms, and provides delicious fresh from the field foods to customers. FreshPoint defines “local” as 250 miles from their warehouse, and they are looking for farmers to supply Nashville!
At this workshop, farmers will learn about FreshPoint’s purchasing process, ways they support farmers in fullfilling the insurance and GAP (Good Agricultural Practices) certification requirements, and take a tour of the Nashville FreshPoint warehouse. Afterwards we will host a lunch & learn with UT Extension on the topic: Introduction to GAP Certification.
Goals of event:
Provide education to small farmers about wholesale markets
