Second Annual Tennessee Local Food Summit Announced for

Nashville, TN (October 17, 2012) - The second annual Tennessee Local Food Summit will be held  Saturday, December 1 at Green Door Gourmet Meeting House, 7011 River Road Pike, Nashville. Organized by area sustainable farmers, the Summit will once again be geared to home gardeners, farmers, students, consumers, and anyone interested in learning about local food and our local food system.

Reknowned farmer, speaker and contributing Acres USA writer, Hugh Lovel returns as one of the Summit's speakers. Other speakers to date, include: Sandor Katz, author of The Art of Fermentation; Birke Baehr, internationally acclaimed youth advocate for local food and farming; Dodd Galbreath, Executive Director of Lipscomb University's Institute for Sustainable Practice; and Jeff Poppen, aka The Barefoot Farmer, who's been involved in the local food movement for over 35 years and regular'y appears on Nashville Public Television's Volunteer Gardener.

The Summit kicks off the previous evening, Friday, November 30th with a reception at a local Nashville-area restaurant. Following the reception, a panel discussion "Why Care About Local Food?" will explore agriculture's role on our health, our environment, our economy, and our consciousness. More details coming soon.

Workshops will be held on Saturday from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. at the newly-completed Green Door Gourmet Meeting House. Tracks include Building Healthy Soil, Organic Farming/Gardening, Marketing/Distribution, Cooking/Preservation featuring local chef demos. Plenty of time will be available for one-on-one discussions with the speakers and exhibitors.

Dinner and a barn dance will be held onsite beginning at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday night.

The conference fee includes locally grown and homemade meals. Each portion of the conference can be purchased separately or the entire conference as a package.
